About Us

About UsThe Saskatoon Housing Authority (SHA) was incorporated in 1963 as an agency of the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC) with the mandate to manage housing units that have been assigned to the Housing Authority according to management agreements entered into with the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation. We are responsible for the ongoing operation of the provincially-owned public housing portfolio in Saskatoon. The SHA seeks to maintain and improve the quality of the existing housing units and to provide an effective housing service.

The SHA administers and manages two housing programs referred to as Social Housing and Affordable Housing with a portfolio of approximately 2,600 housing units. The primary objective of these housing programs is to provide safe, quality housing at an affordable rent to low- to moderate-income seniors, families and individuals. Although both programs have specific eligibility criteria, housing is targeted to households whose income is too low to obtain accommodation in the private market without spending more than 30% of household income on housing costs. Priority for entry is determined on an assessed need basis.

A Graduated Rent Scale (GRS) with income ranges is used to establish rents for the Social Housing units where gross household income determines the income range to be used. Affordable housing units have fixed rental rates that are set slightly below the comparable market rent in the community and are not based on income.

The Saskatoon Housing Authority also assists in the management of home repair programs targeted to low-income homeowners in Saskatoon on behalf of the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation.
