Saskatchewan Emergency Repair Program (SERP)
Objective
Provides financial assistance to low-income homeowners in urban (more than 2500 people) Saskatchewan communities to make emergency repairs to their homes necessary for safe living.
Assistance Available
The maximum forgivable loan will be up to $6,000 in southern Saskatchewan and $9,000 for northern Saskatchewan.
Forgivable loans are subject to budget availability
Eligibility
- The gross household income must be less than the established income ceilings (see below)
- The residence must be a principal residence
- The applicant must be the registered owner of the property
- There must be a major deficiency in one of the following areas: plumbing, heating, electrical, structural or fire safety

- Repairs completed prior to written authorization from
- Repairs completed prior to written authorization from Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC) do not qualify
- A property inspection is needed to determine repairs eligible for program funding
- Homeowners are responsible for costs in excess of the forgivable loan
- The homeowner will be required to submit two (2) cost estimates from contractors of their choice, for each of the eligible repairs.
- The homeowner is responsible for hiring and paying the contractor(s)
- The applicant must continue to live in the home for five (5) years after the work is completed in order to earn the full forgiveness

The number of bedrooms refers to the number of bedrooms required to house the members of the household. It does NOT refer to the actual number of bedrooms in the residence. As an example: a single person and a couple would both have a one-bedroom requirement regardless of the size of their home.
